The waterfall circuit - THe Atherton Tablelands - Queensland - 24th July.

Written on: Friday July 24th, 2009

24th July:

Off today, and were going out for the day... to the waterfall circuit!!

Wake up at 9 and were ready to leave by 1030, we adjust the battery on the car and it starts first time. The driver today will be Jon; his girlfriend Steph is also joining us.

We drive out to Innisfail before taking the road to Josephine falls in the Wooroorooran National Park, it is a hot day and the sun is bright again. I go for a swim in the beautiful plunge pool that is a lovely colour green and is as clear as any river I'd ever seen. The water is freezing but I soon warm up, climbing the rocks and walking about on them too.

From here we head to Innisfail for petrol and then along the Pamerston highway to the waterfall circuit starting at Millaa Millaa falls.

Millaa Millaa falls is where the Herbal essences advert was filmed, along with Peter Andre's video to the song "Mysterious girl"... I had never seen something like it before such a pretty falls that head straight down in to a still plunge pool. People from a local tour bus were there doing the hair flick, in the plunge pool trying to catch it on camera, like in the advert for Herbal Essences. People swam under this waterfall too, which looked brilliant.

The circuit then continued to Ellinjaa falls which again was amazing but very different, this one smaller and a lot more spray like, falling in to a forest.

Zillie falls did not have the best of viewing platforms but was also another picturesque sight.

We then drove to Malanda and in to Lake Eacham in the Atherton Tablelands, a lake caused by a volcano exploding years ago.

We cooked sausages, saw a kangaroo mouse and then headed back via some murderous roads to the North, however the sunset was stunning.

We got back about 8pm, a great day out costing us only $35 in petrol and $11 on food, a cheap day. We will go back to see more of this region.
