Maggie

A journal entry from: El Salvador

I met Maggie today. She worked at CIS last year, doing the same thing I will be doing this summer. We ended up talking for something like 2 and a half hours. She told me all sorts of terrifying things and also many wonderful, exciting things. I feel a bit better, a bit more prepared. Wondering how long it will take me to get used to, as Maggie put it, "get ready every morning expecting to get robbed" aka I will be figuring out creative ways to hide my valuables when I'm out and about. Stuffing things in bras and under long skirts will get me far, apparently. I also have flying cockroaches to look forward to!

I'm really excited about food. When Maggie told me about pupusas I nearly started salivating. I'm also excited to travel around El Salvador and I'm thinking of perhaps crossing over to Nicaragua and/or Honduras and/or Guatemala to explore around a bit. I'm also dying to visit the artesan@'s workshops and to learn learn learn. But for now, back to essay editing...

PS I finally bought my airplane ticket today!!!!
