Kyoto day 9 - rest day

Written on: Saturday February 13th, 2010

A journal entry from: Japan 2010

Jack wanted a quiet day today, but I got bored. So, in the afternoon I went to see two temples that weren't on his itinerary. First was Shisen-do in the north of Kyoto. It was really tiny, like the size of a house, with a cute gravel garden. It was one of the few places in Japan were I saw one of those bamboo water spouts, that go "thwack" every now and again (these things are like a Japanese scarecrow, the sound is supposed to scare away animals!). Afterwards, I went to see the oldest Zen temple in Kyoto, Kenin-ji. It wasn't as nice as Tofuku-ji, but still kind of pretty.
