Kyoto day 5 - Arashiyama

Written on: Tuesday February 9th, 2010

A journal entry from: Japan 2010

Today we visited Arashiyama in Kyoto. Arashiyama was my favourite section of Kyoto. Typically, it was the only day that I left the battery of my camera in the charger at the hostel! So all the photos were taken on Jack's camera. It has temples (including little forest temples), "country lanes", bamboo forests, gardens, and lots of places to eat or buy tacky souvenirs. We say Tenryu-ji, the bamboo forest, and Okachi-sanso Villa (where we were served a tiny piece of cake and tea). Then, we walked along the "country lanes" to Takiguchi dera and Gio-ji, we got a little lost here trying to follow the map, but we eventually found the little temples that we were after. In the afternoon, we tried Japanese-style sundaes at one of the tourist trap eating places.
