Tokyo day 1 - Ueno

Written on: Monday January 18th, 2010

A journal entry from: Japan 2010

After major money troubles for me (my credit card wouldn't work in any ATMs I tried), we headed to the "top" of the suburb we were staying in (Ueno): saw our 1st temple (which was almost deserted when we got there, looking very tranquil), walked through an old cemetery with a playground in the middle, found a local shopping street with 350 yen (about $4) bento boxes for lunch, walked back towards our hotel through Ueno Park, stopping at the Tokyo National Museum for some Japanese history (the toilet had the first of what would be many heated toilet seats!). After a rest, we walked from our hotel to Akihabara (electric town/geek central) to look at all the pretty lights.
