A journal entry from: Round the World in 172 days . . .
Ok, so about lunchtime we left Cervantes and the same English lad (who we'll call Fred for the sake of the blog, as he became a prominent part of our trip over the next few days and we can't not mention him) that was on the tour with us last night was on our Greyhound bus, but strangely he said he recognised our faces however couldn't place us and asked if we were at his backpackers? We told him that they dropped us at our hotel last night and made reference to The Pinnacles, but still the penny didn't drop? However, whilst waiting for the bus he managed to amuse us (not intentionally though) by doing press ups in a ditch and leaving strange voicemails for the hostels in Geraldton. Funny Guy??
When we arrived in Geraldton the bus dropped us at the tourist info centre, which was adjoining a hostel. This wasn't ours though, so I asked Fred where he was staying as our hostel said they'd pick us up and I thought he could get a life too rather than walk. He couldn't recall the name but when I said 'is it Foreshore?' he said that was also where he was staying. It turned out we had to get a cab, which he shared with us, but it wasn't until we arrived at the hostel that Fred realised he didn't have a room booked here, it was the other hostel from where we'd been dropped off! Foreshore was fully booked so he had to walk back to the other one, which he proceeded to do without a word in our direction. We thought that may be the last we'd see of Fred . . . .
Anyway Geraldton as a place was absolutely terrible and we were here for two nights! It was a Bank Holiday weekend when we were here and everything was 'CLOSED' - I'm not sure everything being open would have made it any better, but atleast we'd have been able to get some supplies! The highlight of Geraldton was Hungry Jacks (the Ozzie version of Burger King), which is really saying something! Actually there was a nice harbour area as you walk out of the town, that seems like it's currently being developed and in 5 years this part will probably be pretty cool, but the rest really needs tearing down and starting again - sorry if anyone that reads this is from Geraldton!
The last day we had quite a few hours to kill before the bus after we'd checked out of the hostel, so we walked around and looked through shop windows and then watched a film at the little cinema - which was open!! Yay!! The rest of the time was passed with about 20 games of cards - the trouble with this is we only know one game and it's getting kind of boring so if anyone can remind us of the rules of some others we'd appreciate it!

That Fred sounds like a basket case. Probably a good thing he wasn't staying at the same place. Well Geraldton is now off my list of places to see before I die. Looking forward to seeing the pics from the Pinnacles, they sound pretty amazing. I take it Carpet Snakes are not too friendly?? Sounds like it's time to get some decent food, pot noodles and burger king are not going to cut it for much longer. Looking forward to next installment. Lots of love xxxxxxx

Hello again, what a pity you had to spend TWO nights in Geraldton. Was it reccommended, or part of a tour route? You'd better buy a book on card games as soon as you see a book shop, just in case you get stuck in any more no-hopers! What is the 1 game you do know? Where are you off to now, somewhere with a bit more life I hope? Lots of Love XX
