Geraldton - Seriously, I really wouldn't bother stopping if you're passing! »

A journal entry from: Round the World in 172 days . . .
Hey guys, we've managed to get onto a computer but like everything else since we've been travelling up the West Coast, it's expensive so I'll update you on a few places as quickly as I can (hopefully some of you are still reading? We can see that Mum (Gill), Mum & Dad (Richard & Angela), Nanna and William Robinson (sorry not sure who you are? Have we met you on our travels? Our memories are appalling, looking forward to seeing you in Thailand though!) are reading it, so this is for you and any secret readers we have. I can't believe we've been gone for over two months and some of our so called friends haven't put a single message on here yet - no Thai souveniers for you, you know who you are! ;-)
Ok Cervantes was our first stop after Perth and we checked into a Best Western Motel, that was just beside where the Greyhound bus dropped us. The Greyhound seems really well organised and they have flat screen TV's so we got to watch some films during the journey, which helps pass the time.
We were pretty tired when we arrived here so chilled in the room and watched a film before we were picked up for our evening tour. Pretty much the only reason to come to Cervantes is to check out the pinnacles, which are basically masses of eroded limestone pillars covering a huge desert (well not actually a desert, an expanse of in land sand dunes the colour of sharp sand - for those that aren't builders, very orangey yellow sand, rather than the white sand on the beaches). It is a really cool place and you kind of feel as if you're on another planet when you're there, I would have liked to be on my own to meditate for a while. For those that are Billy Connolly fans he did part of running round the world naked film here! Apparently a few tourists decide to act this scene out for themselves when visiting, but we were a little shy in front of the other people on our tour (three middle aged English couples and a young english guy on his own) and we didn't see anyone else doing it when we were there either, but heard some funny stories from our guide!!
When we were on the tour we were really lucky in terms of the wildlife we saw, as the tour guide was an ex-ranger so he knew where to find everything. Firstly we took a de-tour to a beach, as in the morning he'd seen a sea-lion by the water and luckily for us it was still there, so we got pretty close and some good photos (which will be coming by the way, we just need to find cheaper internet as it takes ages to download!). We also had an extra passenger on the mini-bus . . . . a carpet snake!! The driver had found him at The Pinnacles and had put him in a big plastic keg, to drop off somewhere safer away from cars and the road. We saw another huge carpet snake on the road on our way back to the motel, but some prat driving too fast had just killed it! The tour guide was really annoyed and moved it to the side of the road, but it was still moving a little although definitely on it's way out! You really have to respect the wildlife in the bush and take it easy when you're driving, but some people tear around as though they're on a motorway! We saw a few Kangaroos fairly close up too, which was cool, but you have to be wquick if you want a photo of these fella's as they move pretty quick once they spot you.
We had a lovely pot noodle to look forward to for dinner when we got back to the motel and then another film and bed, ready for the bus to Geraldton the next day.

Helloo my 2 booties, I was getting a bit worried, but knew you would be back as soon as you could. How long was the journey from Perth - Cervantes both in time & distance? Do they have stops, or do you have to go prepared with food & water (& water the odd bush Ha Ha) on route? I wouldn't have had the nerve to sun bathe nude, even in the days when I had a decent figure! (Ah memories) Where ever you go there are thoughtless people who ruin it ie: killing the snake. Why do they go to such lovely places, then travel so fast they don't see a thing? Hope you are managing to get some good wholesome meals, not too many Pot Noodles eh? Speak again soon, take care, Love XX

Hi again you two, again sounding really exciting, and quite comfy caoch the Greyhound sounds. I looked at views of Pinnacles and Kalbarri, and like nanna, gone would be the days to nude run, even if I did go running not nude though today with Marie for preperation for the race for life, how knackering was that 1.5 miles felt like 15 miles, but hey good cause. Anyway on to the next blog. Love you both xxxx Keep intouch and we will try again to call you xxx

Ah ha, I see I am due a Thai Souvenier for being a special friend and posting a message! Lucky me!! You're funny, reminds me of in Coogee when you used to email home abusing people as they hadn't written to you quickly enough!! You see that I am making up for a lot of lost reading! I am doing overtime at work but "waiting" for work currently xxx
