Farewell North Island, Hello The South . . . .

Written on: Monday January 28th, 2008

A journal entry from: Round the World in 172 days . . .

So we got a ferry across from Wellington to Picton, in the South Island. This was a three hour crossing and for anyone that knows me well enough you'll know that I'm not so lively with sea legs!! However, I managed to make the journey without feeling queezy . . . we found a table where I could avoid looking out of any windows and I successfully buried my head in a book for the whole three hours fooling myself that I was actually on dry land . . . hey stupid you may think, but it worked!

We got picked up at the Ferry Terminal in Picton by the guy that ran the hostel and it was kind of in the middle of nowhere, but had amazing views of the harbour and all the boats from our balcony. Another great en-suite room and our opinions of hostels improving with each stay! We cooked for ourselves that night and chilled in our room, watching a film. There's really not a lot in Picton, but the small town seemed a friendly place and we think it will be alot busier in a few years as there seemed to be lots of new bars, cafes etc.

A good nights sleep put us in good stead for another bus ride in the morning down to Kaikoura . . . .
