Wellington, lets treat ourselves to a hotel!! ;-)

A journal entry from: Round the World in 172 days . . .

Hey folks, not too much to report but just to let you know where we've been . . .

After our second night in Taupo we got a bus down to Wellington (for those of you that don't know it's the Capital of NZ). We didn't arrive until late Saturday, so walked to the hotel / serviced apartment place, which was really nice! We didn't do much here at all . . . showered and then went out for a dinner at an Irish pub in the city. The food was ok, but service was terrible, something we haven't been used to in NZ!!

The next morning we strolled around the city and took some photo's. It's a lovely place, very clean and pretty quiet for quite a large city (although it's tiny in comparison to Auckland!). To be honest that was all we saw of Wellington as time wasn't really on our side! We were going to find a town called 'Kaori' according to someone in Taupo, but I don't think it actually exists, as we saw somewhere called 'Karori' and think the guy was mistaken. Whilst on the subject of my name. I've been thinking it means 'Hello' in Maori for the last 27 years, but actually found out (when I was on the skydive) it means 'No'!! Hmmm, not the greatest of meanings and they guys found it hilarious that I was called 'No' and was about to jump out of a plane ;-) Oh well, I have since looked it up and it is also of Japanese Origin and means 'Fragrant' which I think is a great description of me, even as a backpacker would you believe!! We have actually come across a couple of Kaori's booked into the hostels - boo! I thought I was the only one!

Anyway that was the last of the North Island . . . . Great place!
