The Great Sand Dunes

Written on: Thursday July 26th, 2007

A journal entry from: Colorado

Yesterday was awesome! We got to the Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve around 3 P.M. Mountain time and found a cozy little camp spot. Then we headed over to the sand dunes. Ok so have you ever played football on the beach or had a run on the sand? Well this is about 12 times harder. We hiked all the way up to the peak of one of the sand dunes! It was so hard but we didn't give up and by the time we made it up there, it was so completely worth it. I've never felt more proud of myself or more accomplished before in my life. I wanted to stop so many times and just roll all the way down to the bottom but we had come so far by those points and I just couldn't do that to Daniel so we went all the way up and I've never been happier. The view was so beautiful that pictures don't even come close to doing it justice. If you ever go to Colorado you must go hike the sand dunes.

When we got back to camp we had the most amazing dinner any camper could ever have. Pasta in alfredo sauce!! After a long hike, it was the greatest dinner we could have asked for. Then coffee and Garden State :)

Last night we realized that we had planned a day off and that we actually had two days we needed to kill so today we are going to Durango, CO. Our aunt and uncle recommended going there so we are going to go see what fun things we can find to do.

I'll try and upload pictures soon, the sites being slow.

Peace out playa.
