Istanbul

A journal entry from: Switzerland, Greece & Turkey 07

Istanbul was cool. It was filled with historical buildings (not so much my cup of tea) but they were beautiful and it was good to learn some history. The first full day we did a bus tour of all the famous buildings including the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sofia, the Grand Bazaar, etc. The looks and comments from the men were definitely more prominent in Istanbul than anywhere in Greece. The tour guide described the Bazaar as a great place to buy junk but if you're a couple, it's hell for men. The Bazaar was a bit disappointing in that most of what they sold were gold and silver jewelry (I like to call hideous) and Turkish keychains, bowls and other souvenirs.

The second day we went on a boat cruise up the Bosphorus, which was beautiful. The weather was perfect and I got to see huge palaces from the Ottoman Empire days and the most expensive houses in Turkey (up to 10 million USD). We spent the afternoon walking leisurely and doing some shopping. The next day we were headed back to Zurich.
