A journal entry from: New Zealand
We took a day trip to Milford Sound on the West coast. Its a fjord land area where the mountains dramatically enter into the Tasman Sea with loads of stunning waterfalls and surrounding scenery. One of the highlights of the trip was the drive through the fjordland national park itself. We passed through lake Teanu, lots of rain forest and around a series of snow peaked mountains it was absolutely amazing. Alot of those peaks are prone to avalanches but we were safe enough from seening any.
After a four hour bus journey we eventually reached the port where we would cruise out into the fjords where the mountains meet the Sea. Its a spectacular spot and everyone was astonished with the great views and photos opportunities. On the cruise we seen a good few waterfalls just flowing of the edge of the mountains and into the sea. At one point the captain of the vessel sailed up real close to a waterfall and those of us on deck got wet but the awsome power of the waterfall was breathtaking and everyone was cheering. It was really windy on the deck but it was just too good a sight to go below so we satyed on deck and talked to some fellow irish travellers. We are everywhere!! We also seen a pod of dolphins close to the mountain side but they are also everywhere in New Zealand. It was a great day for the cruise.
