We hiked 18.7 km across the Tongariro Crossing otherwise known as Lord Of The Rings country because your right between two active volcanoes one of which is Mt Doom (Mt Ngauruhoe). The climb itself was pretty intense but the scenery itself inside and around the edge of the volcanic craters was amazing!!

The two mountains (volcanoes) are enormous and it took us 7 hours to hike across them. The volcanic gasses coming from them were stinking! Once we reached the summit it was freezing cold and there was alot of ice around. We are in winter here so Mt Doom looks completely different compared to the movies but it was all still spectacular.

One of the most fun parts of the day was the hike down the side of the volcano. The dirt underfoot was all loose soil and ash so you could run along down fairly fast, sile fell at one point and instead of helping I managed to get a few photos :-)
