Skydiving in Taupo!!

Written on: Thursday May 22nd, 2008

A journal entry from: New Zealand

So in the skydiving capital of the world, Taupo we decided to go for it! (more people throw themselves out of planes here every year then in the rest of the world put together) We just booked it that day so we didn't have time to get nervous which is a good thing. I wouldn't have slept well I think knowing I had to do it the next day!! We arrived at the place and had to fill out the usual forms asking for next of kin etc. I hate those forms but we have filled out so so many since leaving Ireland. We have to stop doing dangerous things!! Anyway we got all kitted out- jumpsuits, lifejacket (just in case we fell in the lake!), lots of straps, helmet etc. All very secure then it was in the airplane and up up and up. It took about 30 minutes to reach 15,000 feet. They were along 30 minutes. With every few feet you go up the whole idea of falling out of a plane seems a little bit more crazy!! Jumping out is amazing and the experience of free falling is something else!! It's such a rush!! I thought I'd feel sick or something but it's just amazing. I screamed practically the whole way down (when I could get air in!!). Kev was cooler and managed to shout at the camera!! It's such an excellent experience, definately everyone should do one at least once in their lives!!
