We got an 18 bus from Salta to Mendoza, longest bus journey yet!! But the seats were really really comfortable. Leather reclinable ones. However the movie was What Women Want so that sucked!! Again we´d nowhere booked for the night we arrived in and since it was a Fri everywhere seemed to be packed up!! We got one in a dorm anyway and spent the rest of the day walking around. Mendozas a really nice city. An earthquake flatened it in 1861 and they did a really good job rebuilding it!! All the streets are really wide in case there´s another earthquake so they buildings fall into the streets not into each other - good forward thinking!We moved hostal the next night to the really nice Hostal Loa. On Sunday we had a fantastic BBQ there, mountains of steak (really well done for Kev, all ways for Sile) and loads of red wine! Also heaps of salad and bread and weirdly eggs in peppers! Check out the photos, sounds weird but very tasty! On Monday we did a bike tour of the local woneries, that was really cool, just cycling around, vineyards to the left and right of you and mountains in the distance and stopping off at every winery for some tasters! The last stop we made was for liquor and chocolate. We were subjected to tastings of 60% whiskey and absent! Very strong! Chocolate was lovely though! We got the bus to Santiago in Chile that night, didnt sleep a wink on it. We had to go through customs at 2am. It was very weird getting off the bus and having to be sheparded into this queue for this stamp and another queue for another stamp! Our bags were all searched as well, well by a sniffer dog!! And some poor guy with an accordion in his luggage was made play the thing in front of all the other passengers and 2 customs officials. Then one of the officials went out and got another two officials so there was alll of us and 4 customs officials looking at this guy trying to play the accordion. And he couldnt in the slightest!! I know dont did they think he was trying to smuggle something through or what, but it was a surreal experience int he middle of the night!!
