La Paz

A journal entry from: Boliva

After one night beside this huge lake we set off for La Paz. The scenery along the way was fantastic and at one point we drove onto a ferry big enough for one vechicle at a time and it took us to a port at the oppisote side of the lake. We got into Bolivia and met up with Rob a mate of mine from DCU. We went for food and then had some beers in a pub called Olivers Travells. We stayed until closing time twas good crack.
Next day as part of our tour we went to the moon valley. Its called the moon valey because the rock formatioins apparently resemble those on the moon. Its basically a huge area that was once under water before tectonic movements created the enomous mountain range that La Paz is now on. The moon valley itself is very unstable and changes every year with heavy rain fall. It will be completely eroded in a couple of hundred years. Some of the attractions there are kind of useless. When the valley opened to the public some of the structures were given names but now (years later) the sights dont resemble their names because of erosion. Id still recomend viewing it though its very unusual landsacpe. The view of la paz from one of the tourist points in the city is very impressive. You can see nearly the entire city from one point. Its as if your at the centre of a semi circle looking over the mountain valley where the city is spread acoss everywhere you can see...
