South Island

Written on: Tuesday May 1st, 2007

The vegatation is very tropical on both islands. Lots of ferms and palm trees and very green. No real animals here. The top of the food chain is the imported possium which is creating problems.

Went for a boat ride down the Abel Tasman NP (Tasman Sea) and walked back 3 hours to be picked up by the boat at a different Bay. Yes I walked again with Barbs cold. Did I thank you yet Barb. While on this boat ride some dolpins came up and swam beside us. We also saw some seals too. It was great.

The roadas here are unique. They drive on the wrong side plus they have bridges made for one car. So you are doing 100 km and then the first one to the bridge gets to go through while the other hits the brakes. Only lost once. To top it off they have some bridges that we share with a train too. I don't know how those ones work but I am sure the trains gets the right of way.

Today we are at Franz Joseph to view the glaciers but we will be walking in the rain. Yes I will be walking.

Scott should feel right at home - driving on the wrong side of the road LOL! And racing for the right of way for the bridge - how much fun can that be. Stay out of the ditches!!! Great idea to keep in touch with everyone. And stop whining about your colds - YOUR ON HOLIDAYS!! CHEERS!

Hi Guys. Was telling a buddy here at work who use to work for 3M New Zealand. He said if you have time to check out the Hot Pools @ Orewa and walk the Milford Track if there is still any soles left on your shoes. Pretty cool technology to chat across the world. Enjoy!!!
