A Lasting Beginning

Written on: Sunday November 9th, 2008

A journal entry from: China

C: This will be the last update on this blog.  It was fun while it lasted (in more ways than one).  For an unplanned trip, we could not have planned it better even if we tried.  We ended up at the Taj Mahal on our first day and and walked the Great Wall of China on our last.  We can't forget everthing that happened in between either: The Bollywood Movie, Andaman Island, Annapurna Mountains, Beijing Olympics and all the great cities, places and people that we met along the way.  We ended the the trip early because my grandmother was dying from a massive stroke.  Two months later, she's eating, walking and talking, almost like nothing happened.  It's been a miracle and life-changing, much like this journey.

We've learned so much on this trip about each other, about ourselves and about us as a couple, more than we could have imagined.  It is from here that Debbie and I must part ways for circumstances that I can't control.  Debbie, I love you and you will always be deep in my heart.  Stay safe and take care when you're in Spain.

I will be travelling to South-East Asia alone.  It will be much like the first, unplanned with no expectations.  The only difference is I won't have someone there to share it with.  Sitting here at the airport, it's such a swirl of emotions none more frightening than sadness.  And none more surreal than the unknown that lies ahead.  So I leave you with these three words of hope.  It's was what I believed in before the trip and what I still believe in today: "Get, Unset, Go".

Carl

Lest I forget.
