Guimares to Boracay: a typical journey in the Philippines

Written on: Thursday April 17th, 2008

A journal entry from: See you next year!

For travelling in the Philippines you need a bit more patience and time than in most other countries we have been to. The country consists of more than 7000 islands, so boats seem to be the obvious choice of type of transportation (although it isn't always obvious when or if they will go). Even when you travel mostly by land, chances are you gonna have to take the ferry at some point.

Even when things are obvious, as in this case going from Guimares to Boracay, you need to calculate some extra time for transfers: we counted 5 different types of transport that day, for a distance of only about 100 kilometres at bird's flight(see photo album).

A good thing we did still have the time....And you might be able to guess how we got out of Boracay: We took the plane. :-)
