Tourists in Vientiane

Written on: Saturday February 16th, 2008

A journal entry from: See you next year!

Vientiane, capital of Laos, is probably our favorite capital in south-east asia so far.

We had some great meals, some drinks overlooking the Mekong river, cycled around, visited Patuxai (Victory Gate, faintly resembling the Arc de Triomphe), Pha That Luang (a golden Buddhist stupa and symbol of Lao nationalism) and Xieng Khuan (or Bhudda park, a sculpture park containing over 200 Hindu and Buddhist statues. Even if you have "temple and/or sculpture fatigue" it is a great park to play around in for a bit).

And before I start to sound like a travel guide (which we try hard not to), I will add that we had a great night out bowling with a recently divorced American and his Laos boyfriend. Roy beat me :-(
