Christmas on the beach

Written on: Monday December 24th, 2007

A journal entry from: See you next year!

Since we left cold Holland a good few months ago, we had been dreaming about Christmas on a beach. It just sounds like something you need to do at least once in your life. Unfortunately, we were in Cambodia at the time, and the only nice beach they have (according to our guide book that is), sounded a bit too touristy for us. So, we were heading for the capital, Phnom Penh, hoping to find a nice Christmas dinner or something.

Thankfully, before buying a ticket, we met an English guy called Glen, who said he was going there and he had heard better stories about it than we had. So, we changed plans and arrived in Sihanoukville on Christmas day. It took a long time to find a room (why do most people seem to be better at planning than us?), but we did in the end and we had a great "Christmas at the beach"!

PS Christmas dinner was huge tiger shrimps, salad and baked potato and a bottle of white wine (legacy from the French), all this eaten by candle light: On the beach of course!

At the time of writing, 12th of January, we just arrived in Vietnam. As usual we are behind updating this blog, this time also due to slow Internet connections in Cambodia. In Vietnam it seems to be a bit better, but here we are unable to reach certain webpages, as Internet seems to be state-controlled. Uhm...

Coming "soon": NewYear in Phnom Penh, Brother and Sister Mountain in Kampong Cham, River Dolfins in Kratie, Hiking in Ratanakiri and border crossing through Mekong Delta, Vietnam.

Heerlijk dat je mij laat meegenieten d.m.v. zo'n lading interessante footstops. En bedankt ook voor de prachtige foto's. Wel heel wat anders dan de "glaciares" in Chili of de hangmattenboot over de Amazone!
