Hat Ton Sai

A journal entry from: See you next year!

After leaving Koh Samui, we weren't quite finished with our beachy existence. We had found really nice beaches, but still not this drop dead gorgeous, idyllic, kind of bounty island beach. So we followed another tip, from some guy we had met in some bar in Bangkok. We went to Krabi to visit one of the surrounding beaches.

At arriving in Krabi we kind of had decided to go to a certain beach, but within two minutes of talking to a travel agent we had decided to go to another beach. Because these two beaches were within eyesight and, at low tide, walking distance of each other we would be able to see both anyway.

So our destination had become Hat Ton Sai. According to our Lonely Planet also a rock climbing paradise. But my rock climbing days almost never got of the ground and Ingrid's rock climbing days stopped a few years ago, so that part of the paradise feeling was lost on us.

So the beach part had to do it. And the beach on Hat Ton Sai was nice, although not spectacular. And the other beach, Railay West, was even nicer, with powdery white sand and crystal clear waters. But, as in Hat Ton Sai, also with lots of longtailboats running off and on (as you can see on the picture), a beachfront filled with luxury resorts and their guest spilling out on the beach. Still very nice, but not paradise.

So we went on. I'm writing this now from Ko Lanta where we are at another very fine beach. Still not the beach I told you about at the beginning, but this time we knew it up front. Tomorrow though we're gonna try again and head up to Ko Muk. This is a tip from an older dutch couple we met, and according to them it's a real bounty island. So, we'll just wait and see...and may be I'll be able to spend my birthday in a sort of paradise. And if not a sort of paradise it will probably be another very nice beach. Pfff, life is hard when you're turning 34.
