São Luis

A journal entry from: See you next year!

After leaving the Amazon, we arrived in São Luis. We visited the place before on a holiday, so we knew what to expect more or less. What we didnīt expect however, or rather didnīt know, was that when we arrived it was the start of a small holiday. First a national holiday, followed by a regional holiday, followed by a sunday.

The effect of all this was that the historic center of the city, where we were staying, was virtually deserted during the day, with everything closed, except for some tourist bars and restaurants.

Luckily for us, at night it got a little more livelier, with on Saturday a nice show of local groups and performers. We saw a kind of extraction of the whole cultural year with among others a samba group consisting of peope all over 70 years old (not allowed to join until that age), and a dance from the famous Bumba Meu Boi festival. No pictures of this unfortunately.

Hey! For some reason, we did not get footstops journal emails for a while. We thought you just decided to join some Amazon tribe and never come back. Por suerte vuelven a llegar los mensajes. We thought we had to organize a rescue expedition ;) Un abrazo a los dos.
