Snorkeling and red stripes in Negril

Written on: Saturday April 5th, 2008

A journal entry from: St. Lucia and Jamaica, APR07

Having just left St. Lucia, we were looking forward to a few days of total relaxation on the pristine beaches of Negril.  We once again stayed with John and Anita at Freedom Villa, after staying with them on our last trip here just a couple months ago http://www.freedomvilla-negril.com/eng_home.htm.  It is an ideal location for us, quiet yet close to the beach.  We once again rented a scooter from our friends, and this time were invited to the hills to see the ongoing construction of their new home.  It was coming along nicely!

Back in Negril we completely chilled.  We snorkeled every day along the cliffs, and out to Booby Cay which, I must say, was quite spectacular.  Access can be a bit difficult if you are not staying at the nearby resort; but thankfully we ran into a diving buddy from last trip who got us through security!  We saw eels, sea snakes, conch, a large sting ray, flounder, lobster and tons of fish...all in six feet of water or less.

Afternoons and evenings were spent back on the beach at or nearby Alfred's, sipping red stripe, playing frisbee, eating jerk chicken, listening to reggae bands and totally relaxing.  Not a bad way to spend a few days.
