The Rhine and Wine

Written on: Saturday October 13th, 2007

A journal entry from: Fall for Germany

We had a leisurely stroll through Bacharach (that's a fun word to say), the town where we got on the boat for our Rhine Cruise.  It was really pretty floating down the Rhine.  I totally missed the memo that we were going to see to see the famed Lorelei statue, so I don't have a picture of it.  Oh well.

Again, we had to push the boat to get it started and then we took off for another tour in Bernkastel.  However, we ended up being about 30 minutes late or so and Herr Whisnant decided to cancel the tour (no one is really sure why.  We don't think it was because we were late.  Maybe because the bus driver was scary.) and we headed straight to Trier.  It was nice to have a bit of free time with friends.  Sally, Mike, Jason, and I got some quick food and watched My Fellow Americans (funny movie).

And then wine tasting.

Well, first we had a tour of the winery and it was neat to see where they store everything.  We tried 6 wines (2 dry, 2 half dry, 2 sweet) plus dry champange while on the tour we got there and a more expensive wine that Herr Whisnant bought for us at the very end.  It was AMAZING.  Definitely a sweet dessert wine.  I loved it.
