Milano and Venice

Buon giorno!

Hope all is well back in Canada!  Today we are in Milano, and just leaving right away to go the Last Supper and then to Monza for a quick tour and a concert.

The day before yesterday we were in Venice, and got to do some shopping, which was great!  Then we went back to St. Mark's to try and catch the guided tour, but we were too late on the vaporetto...so we hung around and shopped a bit more until our gondola rides at 5:00 PM.   We provided the singing (apparently they charge extra for a singer and accordian player anyway), and there were about 20 of us all together in 4 different boats.    It was fantastic.

Then it was off to Milan yesterday, but there was an accident on the freeway and it took us all day instead of the 3 hours we thought.  So instead of arriving at noon, we arrived here at about 4:30 PM.  Then we went out on the town to a cool district near some canals - according to Alessio, our tour director, in the 1400s Milan used to be a system of canals and islands like Venice...now not so much.  But there is a little area with canals and bridges, with little bars and restaurants.  So we walked over there after we dropped people off who were going to the opera.  We had a few drinks and a buffet, and got back late! Gah.  Too many late nights here, especially spending time on the computer at 2:00 AM when we finally get a chance.

Today we walked over to the Duomo in the morning and got to go on a quick tour of the rooftop which was amazing.  If I find a computer in Gorizia, I will upload lots of photos!  Then I had to go with Alessio to pick up the tickets for the Last Supper which starts in about an hour, since they were in my name.

P.S.  Samara got pickpocketed today! :'(  Milano is bad for pickpockets apparently.  Poor girl, first her feet, now this!!

What an amazing time it sounds like you are having! I wish I was there to hear the beautiful singing on the canal! Thanks for all of this!
