La Paz City Tour

Written on: Friday August 10th, 2007

A journal entry from: Bolivia, Peru, and the Galapagos!

After sleeping in, Sarah, Joann, and I took a city tour of La Paz in the afternoon. We had an English speaking guide and a minivan to tour around town. The first stop was the Valley of the Moon. The earth had been eroded in such a fashion that you were meant to feel like you were walking on the moon (not so sure of that). It was interesting. Next we went to a viewpoint to take pictures of La Paz, and then we wrapped up at a Bolivian cultural museum. The museum had a fine collection of traditional Bolivian masks and pre-Incan gold jewelry.

After the tour, we met our new tour leader who would be with us through Peru. Her name is Erika. We have also lost a few people from the Bolivian portion of the tour (not everyone has lots of vacation time!). We were also supposed to have a new group member, but she missed her connection in Miami. The group now consists of: Me, Sarah (22 year old English girl studying to become a teacher), Joann and Richard (27 year old Welsh couple on a 6 month vacation), Sarah and Larissa (22 year old friends who studied in Bristol), Louise (27 year old English school teacher), Fiona (34 year old divorced Irish woman), Mystery girl who missed her flight, and Erika our tour leader. So that's 9 women and 1 guy.... I'm still not sure why guys don't go on these tours...

Tonight we had a great traditional dinner near our hotel at a place called Angelo Colonial and then we came back to our hotel to rest up for our 7am wakeup call in order to get on the road to Peru...

It may be a while before I make more updates... stay tuned!
