Halong Bay, Vietnam

A journal entry from: Southeast Asia

Serene, enchanting, mystical...it's no wonder that this area is known as Vietnam's most magnificent natural wonder.  We cruised through the limestone islets in a traditional junk, sleeping on board and enjoying the company of 14 other travellers.  The food was outstanding on board and the trip well organized - except for the weather. Some blue sky and warm water may have enticed us to a plunge into the Gulf of Tonkin. The second night took us to Cat Ba Island where we visited some remote caves, Monkey Island and spent the night in the village of Cat Ba. We had a great time in a karoke bar - singing with a crowd of travellers from all over the world. Greg led the crowd in his rendition of Mr. Bogangles...
