14741 kms: Saltillo, Chihuahua and Mexican desert skies

Written on: Monday June 9th, 2008

A journal entry from: North America in our Camper Van!

We split up the long drive from Real de Catorce to Creel, our next destination, by camping on night in the city of Saltillo and camping another two nights just outside of Chihuahua.

Saltillo didn't have much to offer, especially considering that we had just visited the colonial centers of Queretaro and San Miguel de Allende. The most exciting thing that we did was to splurge and enjoy a banana split.

The campground outside of Chihuahua offered a welcome retreat from the nearly unbearable dry heat that we had hit crossing the Mexican desert. The small pool surrounded by trees was the perfect place to hang two hammocks and read a book, with the occasional cool-off soak as needed.
