Dancing in the streets of San Cristobal

Written on: Saturday May 17th, 2008

A journal entry from: North America in our Camper Van!

We spent a lovely last evening with Peter, Susan and Aron. First we hit a Mexican/Indian/Thai/Lebanese restaurant (Mexindothaibanese?), and then strolled the cobble-stoned streets to find ourselves some ?posh?, a popular local homebrew. The ?mean old posh lady?, as Peter referred to her, was set up with a small table with two insulated jugs and some plastic glasses right where they said she would be. ?She?s always here and she?s always mean, but her posh is good? Peter explained. We ordered four glasses, and she took the insulated jugs and poured nearly full each glass with a warm aromatic fruit drink. Next, from under the table, she pulled out a Coca-Cola bottle filled with a clear liquid. Rob and I look at each other and smiled as we were thinking the same thing: all Mexicans must put their home brew in empty Coke containers. The posh was delicious and as we continued strolling down the street we came across the Mariachi Square, where the Mariachi bands stand around and wait to be hired for the evening, or just for a song. One lone Mariachi band remained, and we decided that a little music would be a great way to end the evening.
