Jazz in Montreal

A journal entry from: World Tour 2008

Here in Montreal I check out the jazz festival everyday. Apparently it is one of the biggest in the world, and most of it is free! Otherwise it's a really cool town, with a lot of people and always something going on. People are friendly and accomodating.

I held a couchsurfing meeting (www.couchsurfing.com) in an irish pub which turned out really good (Well the message went out to the 4000 couchsurfing members in Montreal) . Around 30 people showed up who didn't knew eachother and most of them were new members I think and time flied, at 00h30 I had to leave to take the last bus home to my host.

Sights I have seen here is a basilica that looks very much like the church at top of the hill of Montmartre in Paris and also a Notre Dame that looks like the one in Paris, but very beautiful modern architecture inside.
I wandered the underground world in Montreal. The metros are connected into a web of shopping malls where people hangout especially in wintertime when it's cold. And the old Montreal was very beautiful  since it felt like being in Paris. I went up an old clocktower along the river, 200 steps! Apparently maybe 50-100 years ago cities were competing to have the tallest clocktower. After that I took the metro to the olympic tour de montreal which is the worlds largest inclining tower ( Forget the tower of Pisa!). Really astonoshing to stand just beneath it!

It looks like i have a ride to Quebec (once again through www.couchsurfing.com) friday to go to their 400th anniversary.
