A journal entry from: Around the World in 80 Days!

Hi all!

Madrid has been an interesting stop.  Neither of us really knew what we'd see or do here, but we've managed to accomplish a lot!  Our first morning we rolled out of bed (slept in till 9:45!!!) and scrambled to make a bike tour to get the ball rolling.  We ended up with a group of 5 and it was pretty great.  A lot more hills in Madrid than Barcelona!  We went past the palace and saw the royal guard chauffuerring several ambassadors from the palace to various places in town in horsed drawn-carriage.  After we visited a few plazas and saw some impressive statues we ended up at Parque del Ritero and had lunch overlooking a cute pond where you can rent rowboats.  We also saw the 'only' statue of the devil ever made (there may or may not be one more apparently) which is a reminder to people not to be too proud.

In the evening we watched some of the European Champions League final (great football!) in our hostel bar and headed out with some people in our dorm to a flamenco dancing show.  It was really fantastic... it was a really small club and we had fairly good seats close to the action.  The band and dancers really put on a great show.  The speed they dance and clap with was incredible.

Today we have just wandered around the city.  We went to the Museo del Prado to see some famous works by Rembrandt, Rubens and Caravaggio, etc. and then headed back to Parque del Ritero to partake in some boating.  It was relaxing.

Tonight I think we will just take 'er easy and have a couple drinks in the 'Cat's Cave' - the name of the bar in our hostel.  We fly out to Prague tomorrow and we are kind of looking forward to it... we feel odd as we haven't seen the inside of an airplane for a few weeks!

Anywho... we'll add pictures when we can!  Keep your messages coming!
