Cape Town

A journal entry from: South Africa, Europe 2015

After a last few tasting expeditions in the wine growing area around Paarl (to ensure that we had plenty of good wine for the week) we headed for our villa on the coast near Cape Town. There we linked up with the other 4 couples who make up what we call the "villa people". Amongst our group we have been fortunate to have two died-in-the-wool South Africans who have acted as highly knowledgeable tour guides. The Cape Town area is a beautiful, but very busy and confusing, place and we have benefited greatly from their guidance. Among other things they have taken us swimming with the penguins, hiking the farthest reaches of Cape Point, on crazy, winding drives along the stunning coastlines, on visits to beautiful downtown Cape Town and on a sobering trip to Robben Island. In the middle of this high contact tourism we have managed to squeeze in numerous lunches at wonderful coastal restaurants and fantastic wine inspired dinners prepared by the many talented cooks in our group. Not everything in this part of the world is perfect, however and we have witnessed, from a distance many examples of extreme inequality that this country still struggles with more than 20 years after the ending of apartheid .

Great pictures and description...however, there seems be an underlying theme in your blog and Bev MM's....we should be buying shares in SA wines!!...you also got a shot of the rare 2-legged blonde penguin in pic # 7...sounds like you are all having a wonderful time...
