La Loire, Brittany

A journal entry from: Europe 2014

The title of this blog is misleading as we really only passed through the Loire and saw just a tiny bit of Brittany. Time is pressing however and we are beginning to move a little more quickly. To break up our drive we stopped at Aubusson a town well know for its tapestry and carpets which have been famous throughout the world since the 14th century. To us it will also be well know for the best crêpes we have ever had, ironically at a restaurant run by two transplanted Bretons. From there it was a quick dash up to the Loire where we were able to see a couple of châteaux and cycle a bit along the river. This is a cycle tourer's paradise as there are dedicated cycle paths connecting all the great sights as well as b&bs and campsites everywhere. We will certainly return but in the meantime we continued north to the city of Rennes in Brittany to meet friends met on last year's Compostella walk. There we were wined, dined and tour guided by the familles Blin and Lepecheur. We finished this leg by a stop at our favorite place name in France, St. Briac sur Mer.
