Nice, France

A journal entry from: Europe 2012

On our way to pick up Clea and her friend Lise at the Nice airport, we drove along the most picturesque part of the Côte d'Azur. It was a beautiful drive in lovely weather and not too busy except for the 10,000 or so Harley Davidsons that were meeting here to celebrate 100 years of Harleys. We managed to find a campsite right on the water just past Fréjus and almost out of range of the Harleys. We drove through Cannes and saw them setting up for this week's film festival before meeting the girls and heading up to the gîte that we have rented for the week. Our place is well located just 8km north of Nice. From there we are able to take a train into town (parking for a VW van is non existent), wander around the predestrian areas and visit the Chagall museum (Lise insisted). On other days we have taken short drives to visit picturesque hill towns such as Eze, St Paul de Vence and Grasse and usually combine the drive with wonderful hikes in the hills. At the end of the day we relax around the pool and either eat and drink at the gîte or go out for some good French meals. C'est beau la vie!
