Koh Lanta, Thailand

A journal entry from: S.E. Asia 2012

We happened to be on Siboya for Children's day, a fête that happens all over Thailand on one particular day. We went up to the school to watch. It is like a sports day combined with a birthday with everyone receiving a beautifully wrapped present and copious amounts of ice cream. We next went to the island of Koh Jum which is a short  boat ride away. It's far more developed than Siboya but still a lazy backwater relative to other resort areas in Thailand. There we were able to rent bikes, a great way to get away from the coast and see a little of the local village life.  Our friends Bruce and Carel Featherstone joined us there and we spent an enjoyable time with them having drinks at sunset and trying some of the local cuisine.

For our next stage of island hopping we hit Koh Lanta, a somewhat larger island we visited 4 years ago. Things have changed here and it is busier than ever full of many new resorts. We, however have managed to put ourselves in a very cute grass/wood bungalow at the end of all the mayhem.. We have a nice Thai/French restaurant in one direction and a beautiful beach in the other. Not hard to handle.
