Remembering, of course, what a valid ballot looks like.

Fourth step: put each ballot in its colour-coded box. This caused a lot of confusion because (a) there are a lot of boxes and (b) pastel colours look quite similar.

Fifth step: feel proud because you've finally figured out which ballot goes in which box.

Final step: get your little finger (or part of hand for the many people who had nail polish on) coloured with permanent marker. It was supposed to come off after two days, but a week later everyone at work was still marked.

Finally, a winner is announced! That's Kenyatta holding up his official IEBC certificate. The man on the right is the head of the IEBC who looked ever more exhausted as the week went by.
