A journal entry from: Japan
About a month and a half ago I moved to a new apartment. My previous place, arranged by the company I work for, although adequate, was rather crowed and not particularly nice. I had mentioned to a friend that if an opportunity came up somewhere else, I would be interested. About two weeks later this friend told me that another mutual friend of ours was moving to Hiroshima city to take a new job, and that his room would soon be available. I went to check the place out and was sold pretty much immediately. I moved in the next week.
My new place is probably about 13.5 times as nice as my old one...and for slightly cheaper. I've got a large room with a private patio, 3 closets (old apt didn't have any), and double bed (a real bed, as opposed to a Japanese floor futon). The place also has a great kitchen, a comfortable living room with a big TV, a massive outdoor patio, and a bathroom with a fancy toilet (heated seat, bum washer and dryer) that smells of potpurri.
As the potpurii suggets, I live with a female person. Her name is Tokko and she owns the apartment (I think...we pay our rent to her anyway). By "we" I am referring to myself and other male roommate, another Nova teacher originally from Irland. I had hoped that living with a Japanese person would make my Japanese better, it has a bit, but not as much as I'd have liked; either way, she's pretty handy when you need someone to read your Japanese bicycle parking tickets (which i have gotten a few of recently) or figure out how to buy tickets to something on a Japanese website.
So yeah, the new place is pretty sweet. Have a look at the pictures and see what you think.
