Halong Bay boat tour

Written on: Saturday December 3rd, 2011

A journal entry from: South East Asia

Our Halong Bay boat tour was probably one of the highlights of my trip so far - we had such an amazing time!!  It was 2 nights, 3 days long around Halong Bay, Cat Ba Island and Monkey Island.

 Day 1

It was pissing down rain in the morning so we were a bit concerned about how the trip would go if the weather didn't clear up!  When we stopped at a rest stop it was absolutely freezing and windy.  I was really regretting my decision to wear shorts!  When we got onto the boat the first thing we all did was to change into long pants, hoodies and proper shoes!  The group we were with was great fun - met some awesome people and had a delicious lunch.  After lunch we cruised around Halong Bay and went to a cave which had crazy stalactites and stalagmites in it and afterwards some brave people went kayaking (not me!).  In the evening we had another delicious meal and then a crazy drunken karaoke session.

Day 2

When we woke up the sun was shining but it was still quite chilly.  The boat took us to Cat Ba Island and we had the option to go trekking or to cycle.  We opted to cycle and the scenery was very nice!  Afterwards we got on another ferry to go to Monkey Island.  We had free time after lunch and just chilled out on the beach.  In the evening we had a fire on the beach and some cocktails.

Day 3

Another beautiful, sunny day!  Unfortunately most of this day was spent traveling back to Hanoi.  At least the weather was great and we got some nice photos whilst on the boat!
