Isle of Sky Tour - Day 2

Written on: Thursday August 2nd, 2007

A journal entry from: Scotland

Off to a bright and early start this morning.  We were on the bus before 9am.  The first stop was where the "red" mountains meet the "black" mountains... The mountains were covered in cloud which was beautiful but it was coooold... a double jacket morning.  And here I thought it was August... hahah.  After a few photos (which was all that we had stopped for) we made our way to a little village called Portree for coffee and to pick up a packed lunch.  And of course, more photos!

After Portree (which wasn't much besides a few little shops and a market) we headed up to The Old Man of Storr which is a "mountain" that we were intended to climb.  It wasn't too long of a trek - about half an hour each way.  The path was steep, but the view was beautiful - actually reminded me a bit of the view from the Sea to Sky highway on the way to Whistler.  After climbing up we took some photos and then of course, trekked down just in time for rain.  Booo.

Afterwards we stopped at a few more places for photo ops, which was really what the tour was about.  Scenery and photos.  The next "big stop" was at a place called the Fairy Glen.  For that, the weather cleared up and we got some sun.  The fairy glen is a "magical" place where one is supposed to think about their troubles and then leave them there.  It was very peaceful and beautiful!!

After that we headed to a few more photo ops then back to our hostel.  The tide was out when we got back, so Carmen, Vikki and I trekked across to the ruins of yet another castle and took some silly photos before making dinner and just chilling out at the hostel.  We then returned to the pub for another night of Scottish dancing.
