Ishizuchi Shrine and Mountain

Written on: Tuesday March 23rd, 2010

A journal entry from: Ehime Prefecture

Ishizuchi-san (mountain) is the tallest mountain on Shikoku Island at over 1,900m in hight. And has the nickname of Stone Hammer.

One key feature is its shrines and connection with Japanese religion. One of the buildings of the shrine at the foot of the mountain actually has a window that looks out at Ishizuchi's highest peak. Legend has it that one of Japan's god actually resides at this peak.

To arrive at the top takes a long walk up the steep mountain and the use of metal chains to help pull yourself the steep areas.

The best spots I found for information were
