Okazaki: Castle and Park

Written on: Tuesday April 20th, 2010

A journal entry from: Aichi Prefecture

This building is actually a more recent replica of one of the originals but still is a great place to visit and learn about the history of Okazaki-shi. The original was built in the 1450 and lasted until the 1870s when is was destroyed due to a change in Japanese leadership and national laws. This newer version was built in 1959.

The castle stands on a small hill which is surrounded by a large river on one side, the city, a Noh theater, museum and some smaller buildings. Also is a prime sakura viewing area in the spring (See an earlier blog for photos.)
