A journal entry from: London to Beijing overland!!

Well Pokhara is a beautiful little town in central Nepal.  It's the base town for trekkers doing the Annapurna treks in the area.  From the town on a clear day you can see the peaks of the annapurna range mountains and we could see the Annapurna south, annapurna 4, the fishtail or Machhapuchre all of which are around 7000/8000 metres high!   It was pretty cloudy for most of the time we were there but on the last 2 afternoons the clouds cleared enough for the peaks to come through - which just looked amazing not to mention huge!

We had 3 nights there with the truck and then we stayed on for another 2 nights just to chill out in the quietness of Pokhaa whilst the truck headed onto Kathmandu.  I went horse riding with a couple of other girls up to the world peace pagoda, very beautiful riding through the valley and up the mountain, through the rice fields and the local villages.  Many locals live a long way up the hill and walk up and down every day.  Once up the top, the peace pagoda has a big budda and great views of the lake and the valley.  We were lucky enough for the clouds to part for long enough to see the fishtail peak poking out.

I had also gone upto Sarankot at 4:30am one morning to try and see the surrounding peaks but there was too much cloud cover so we didnt get to see much at all.

It was a great little town to just chill out and we went for a row on the lake and just took it easy an enjoyed the town.  We caught the local bus to Kathmandu, which travelled way too fast up and down the winding mountain roads, scary at times! We are in Khatmandu now and have 3 nights.
