A journal entry from: London to Beijing overland!!

We drove on from Yazd yesterday and camped not far from Persopolis by the river.  We went and saw the Nagsh E Rostam which was the tombs of 4 kings and they were carved into the side of a mountain

Persopolis means both city of Persia and destroyer of cities - it is an ancient city that was built in 515BC and was covered in dust until the 1930's.  It was a place where the people of the empire came over Mt Rahmat at New year to pay homage to the Kings.

They were great ruins with many of the pillars of buildings still intact, with a lot of carving work still in good condition.  There were 2 more tombs in the mountains nearby similar to Naqsh E Rostam.

We continued on and camped in the hills near Darab.
