A journal entry from: London to Beijing overland!!

Hey guys, it is our last night in Esfehan and we are have a pretty amazing time to say the least.  First thing we will say that the locals in Esfehan have been so friendly and inquisitive with us, I think foreginers are a big novelty for them, they don't see to many tourists.  So it was Thursday afternoon when we arrived we sat down in this little internet cafe and starting doing our blog etc.  The guy beside us noticed our english and started talking to us, next thing we knew he had invited to his home to meet his and family AND there was family wedding on that night so instantly he had also invited us to a muslim wedding!!!  Being a thursday night the most popular time for weddings because Friday is there one day off for the week. We accepted his offer and he said he would pick us up at 8pm, after that we started to wonder if he was ridgy didge but we didnt worry, he was genuinely friendly and keen to practice his english.

We didn't get to see the ceremony in the mosque or whatever they do and we were just there for the reception type party.  First we went to his home and met his friend who also spoke english, then we had tea and nuts then ice cream (iranians love their ice cream) met his parents who didnt speak any english.  He also sat down and wrote a welcome heather and russ to Iran in english caligraphy which he had taught himself how to do!!

The night was great for me in with the women as they all take off their chadors and scarves and dance.  They were all wanting to talk and had a book of english to help them - some girls were studying english.  Being in with the women had its down falls though as we ate after the men!  at 12:30 so we were all starving by then.  I got taken to the brides house after dinner for more dancing before heading home.  Great night and experience, lots of other people have been invited to peoples homes for meals.

Esfahan as a city is very beautiful and we have spent the last 2 days walking around visiting the bazaar, mosques, bridges, the Emam square which is the largest enclosed square in the world and a world heritage site.  The mosques are simply amazing and our pics wont do them justice at all.

So no we dont want to leave Esfahan, we need more time to explore as lots of time gets taken up chatting with the locals!

We are off to Yazd tomorrow and bush camping for a few days I think.

Pics upload very slowly so we havent got many on.

Take care Heather and Russell.
