Some Holiday Stats

Written on: Sunday June 29th, 2008

A journal entry from: Trails in 2008

Back to London for Wimbledon week, a catch up with friends and workmates and a spell of time in our storage locker.  Our original intention was to spend another month travelling overland back to London, but decided to book an earlier flight to South America to avoid high season flights.  Good to leave some places to do at another time, eh?!

Hereīs some holidays stats we came up with:

Days travelling: 85

Days over 30 degrees: 19

Days under 10 degrees: 3

Photos taken: 7,894 (slideshows on request!)

Alcohol-free days: 25 (thanks to Iran)

Mosques visited: 28

Relics viewed: hundreds

Bowel incidents: 2 (one each, get us drunk and we might divulge details)

Items stolen: 0

Items lost: 0 (but 2 near misses with hard drive containing 5 years of photos, and one mans wedding ring!)

Itīs difficult, but we have voted for our top 5 places:

  1. Iran
  2. Petra, Jordan
  3. Goreme, Turkey
  4. Palmyra, Syria
  5. Plitvice National Park, Croatia

Our least favourite:

  1. Iskender kebabs in Turkey (but good for weight loss)
  2. Plastic bags and bottles littering the countryside, worst culprits Syria and Albania
  3. Mainland Greece

Phase I is now complete, onto Phase II - South America!!!
