A journal entry from: November 2011 until...

Stayed in Vestmanna for a few days with the wonderful Atli. Many of the houses have wonderful looking but surely difficult to maintain turf roofs. Even some of the chicken coops have turf roofs!

The weather was a bit... Faroese (aka more changable than the coutnry's single set of traffic lights), but when it allowed day-trips or hikes around the town were in order.

The highlight of these was to Gasadalur, a tiny village of 13 houses (and fewer people apparently - some of the houses are now holiday homes), which you can get to by hiking over a mountain or through a 1.4 km tunnel which was only completed 6 years ago. Until then, Gasadalur must have been very remote indeed with supplies coming up the perilous steps down to the ocean.

The village is also home to a huge waterfall, falling into the ocean.
