A journal entry from: November 2011 until...

Back up to the mountains for some more walks in the clouds, admiration of old crumbling things (mainly buildings), wrongly assuming that the copious amounts of food on the table couldn't be added to, and being accosted by middle aged men explaining that I couldn't possibly do the next thing on my agenda (in this case catching a minibus back to Tbilisi) without joining them for a vodka or seven.

At this point I have realised that Georgia, especially away from the cities, instils me with a nostalgia for Ireland a generation ago (i.e. when I was a kid there). Yep, gotta love that bizarre christian iconography and people blessing themselves when they pass religious monuments, widows wearing black, rain, segregation of the sexes to the extent that I wonder how it is more Georgians are ever made, a slow pace of life and people wanting to have a chat with strangers even if they can't understand a word you are saying.
