Volunteering for OGAforaid (http://www.ogaforaid.org/en/) at their Community Learning Centre. The Centre provides a place for people to hang out, use the internet, and learn about computing and/or English. We also have a monthly birthday party for kids in the area.

update 29 Feb: A power-cut meant that I had an unexpected couple of hours to spare in the middle of the day, so I drove the 20 odd kilometres to the neighbouring town of Tome. I was pleased to find a kaiten (conveyor belt) sushi restaurant, delighted that it only charged 105 yen (AUD $1.20) per plate and amazed that it had a second shinkansen (bullet train) conveyor belt for special orders - if you want something that isn't on the regular conveyor belt, you order via a touchscreen from your seat and in a couple of minutes your made-to-order sushi arrives on the speedy shinkansen and stops in front of you. Ah the rustic charm of the countryside!
