A journal entry from: November 2011 until...

Stayed for a couple of marvellous nights with the mellifluous Melissa in Naganohara (thanks Melissa!) and took a day trip to the onsen town of Kusatsu. The day melted away in steamy, snowy baths and wandering through the town and surrounds.

The apparently medicinal and definitely relaxing spring water, heated by a nearby volcano, is fed into the centre of town where it is cooled in the yubatake (hot water field) before being fed around the town to residnets, businesses, the 18 free public bath houses, and a foot spa/bath on the side of the road.

The hot, mineral rich water, combined with the heavy snowfall and breathtaking moutain scenery makes for some picturesque, soothing and exhilarating "I've a feeling we're not in Tokyo any more"  moments.
